With a wrist dive computer, a separate submersible pressure gauge (SPG) and compass are still required. These may or may not be mounted together in a console. With a console mounted dive computer, the computer will be mounted in an instrument console, with or without other instruments, depending on the divers gear and preferences. Dive computer consoles typically have mating compasses available that can be attached to the console. Many dive computers can simply be inserted into the depth gauge pocket in a standard instrument console. Air-integrated dive computers have a high pressure hose from the computer to your regulator first stage, so that your dive computer can monitor your air supply. Air-integrated dive computers eliminate the need for a separate pressure gauge.
Nitrox dive computers typically can be used for either air or Nitrox mixtures up to 40% or richer. By programming the Nitrox mix into the dive computer, decompression limits are automatically adjusted for the breathing gas being used. Most newer dive computers are Nitrox programmable.
